Patio and Garden Umbrellas

Umbrellas and parasols are an integral part of garden and patio furniture. If we ever get the summer sunshine we yearn for, then all of our parasols and umbrellas will come in very useful.

More likely in our British weather, our umbrellas will be used to protect us from summer showers and rain.

Whatever use we put our patio umbrellas to, we should spare a thought for what arrangements we make for winter storage of these items of furniture.

While the patio and garden furniture sold in Britain is weather resistant (it has to be) it will take a hammering if it is left out in the elements throughout our wet and windy winter.

Rain, wind and hail will take a heavy toll on any outdoor furniture. So too will snow and ice.

Umbrella and Patio Covers

It is best to store your patio furniture indoors, or at least in a weather proof area.

If you do not have indoor space to store all of your patio furniture, then it is best to buy one of the many furniture covers that are on the market.

Most of them advertise that they are totally weather proof. It is debateable if such a thing exists. Even the best manufactured covers will let in a small amount of moisture around seams or zippers.

However it is fair to say that most of the patio furniture covers on the market today are virtually weather proof, and the small amount of moisture that does get in will do little or no harm to the furniture underneath.

Also patio furniture covers are breathable, thus allowing any condensation to disperse quickly.

Umbrella covers

Umbrella covers come in a variety of makes and colours but essentially you only have to consider the umbrella size in order to find what you are looking for.

Such is the qualtiy of the covers available, that you will be able to use the covers as long as the patio furniture remains in use.

Umbrella covers are surprisingly cost effective as well. They range from GBP 6.50 upwards on selling sites like Amazon and Ebay.

You will find many more expensive versions on the market also, but in my opinion there is only a small improvement in quality as you move up the price stakes.

If you have an area where you can store your patio furniture, including the umbrella, outdoors, without being in the way, then invest in a cover to keep the furniture in good condition until you are ready to use it again.
